About Counselling

Many people come to counselling with problems that have been around a long time, sometimes not even knowing quite what the problem is, but knowing something needs to be done. Taking the step to look for help is a big one and takes courage and determination. If now is the right time for you to make a change, counselling can give you the support you need.

I offer:

Person Centred Counselling
Person centred counselling works because your counsellor knows that you are the expert on yourself. You know your needs, your history, and ultimately what is best for you. You don’t need someone else to analyse you, to tell you what is wrong with you or to tell you how to sort out your life because the answers you need are within you.
Person centred, integrative counsellors are trained to assist you with a wide range of tools and strategies, to help you find your way forward, they will work alongside you on your path towards better understanding and change

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Through a process of guided discovery and behavioural experiments, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy helps clients to improve their situations and emotional well being by identifying and addressing unhelpful stuck thinking and behaviour patterns. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has been proven to be effective in treating a range of problems including depression and anxiety and is the psychotherapy of choice of the National Health Service for these issues.

Addictions Counselling
I am able to offer support to people with addictions for whatever stage in problematic behaviour or substance use they are currently in, from active addiction to relapse prevention.
For those interested in exploring 12 step recovery, I am able to support both a theistic and non-theistic perspective in working with these programs. If you don't feel self help groups are for you however, one to one counselling alone might be more appropriate.

Mindfulness Training and Spiritual Counselling
Mindfulness training can improve your self awareness and develop a sense of well being. It has been proved to be effective in reducing depression relapse and decreasing pain. Studies are now underway to asses its effectiveness for helping with addiction and other issues.
Employed by Her Majesty's Prison Exeter as the Buddhist chaplain, I have experience in offering both mindfulness training and teachings from the Buddhist tradition to support spiritual practice.
Buddhist teachings are not a sectarian belief system but a practice or way of living that is available to people of all religions and none with the aim of bringing an end to suffering.
While I am grateful for your donations, I make no fixed charge for spiritual counselling.
