Advice when seeking Internet Counselling

The internet and technologies such as Skype have opened up a whole new opportunity for people to access counselling. There are a number of reasons you might like to have your counselling on-line, these include:

  • Living too far from a good therapist or counsellor.
  • Not having the time to travel to the office of a competent counsellor.
  • Having agoraphobia or other social issues that make travelling to see a therapist too anxiety provoking.
Whatever your reason for wanting to see a counsellor or psychotherapist on-line via an internet service such as Skype, you will want to know that the person you are seeing is a qualified, accredited and experienced professional. To ensure you are happy with the person you are placing your trust in; please ask to see their qualifications and accreditation documents.

Please check also that you both have the required technology such as a good broadband connection, webcam and microphone and know how to use them.

You might also like to check how your counsellor or therapist wants to be paid. I prefer to receive a direct bank transfer payment after each session. It is a good idea not to pay in advance for internet services unless you have a good relationship built up with your counsellor already.

If you are interested, please contact me to have a free and informal, talk about your needs.
